Any one out there able to diagram out a idot proof surge setup. I plan on setting up a 180 tuff tub bin that is on the floor. Foolproof instructions would be appreciated, I'm not much of a handyman. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/blush.gif

I will do some searching on this one. However one thing I know is the surge device is usually above the aquarium and dumps into it not below the aquarium. I know Geo set one up but was very unhappy with the amount of airbubbles and such that entered the aquarium. Here is a link to a surge device he made.

Couple of ideas for the air bubble problem. From surge designs I have read I believe the problem is the pipe that runs into that tank will fill with air after it empties. The next time your buck tries to dump water down that tube that air gets pulled down into that tank cause it has no place to escape to. This should decrease the amount of air pulled into that tank buy running an air escape line inside the pipe that runs into the tank. The line should run down the pipe some you will probably have to play with the length of the air escape line for bests results. The escape line should just be run to some place that doesn't block the exit end for the air. It is sort of like stinking a straw in a beer bottle and turning it up side down the bottle will drain really fast cause air enters threw the straw well beer exits around it. No I am not waistting beer they sell beer bottle bongs that work on the principle saw one years ago when I was in college.
The option would be to keep the feed pipe to the tank full of water all the time. I am not sure what designs are out their but a little work you might be able to rig something with the release to the surge device at the bottom of the pipe.
Keep in mind these are just some ideas I have never tried them.
