Dimmers for IceCap VHO ballast

Has anyone had bad experiences using the Solar Dimmers for the IceCap 660 ballast with VHO bulbs? Does it reduce the bulbs life or put added strain on the ballast? Or is everything kosher with them?

There are very few people that use them due to thier costs.
Most just use a second light for dawn-dusk.

High tech can be nice but like Tendar said cost is a big factor and a couple actinics for dawn dusk are alot cheaper and more widely used.
