I am going to be moving in the next month and need some good tips/advice on moving a 180 gal reef tank. The move is an hour away and I have a spare 110 gal tank that I can utilize somehow in this move. I was thinking of bringing the 110 to the new apartment and having that full of fresh new salt water in case of spillage and also that will eliminate me having to worry about saving all the water. I will probably plan on a 40% water change since I am going to have the other tank with water ready to go. I am looking for some advice on moving the fish, live rock, sand, and corals. What to move them in etc...
thanks in advance.

Good thing i just moved my buddies 120! ;-)
Here's what we did....
We put all of the live rock in 3 30 gallon rubbermaid tubs. He had about 200# of live rock so this was a much easier way of moving it, far more manageable. You can also use the covers so that water doesn't spill out of the tubs when driving. Not sure the means of transportation but we put all 3 in my 4Runner.
My buddy was fortunate enough to have the local LFS hold his fish for a couple of days while he moved, that way they wouldn't be so stressed.
You could also use your 110 gallon tank like you said...and put the corals and fish in it temporarily until you can set up the 180 again. Make sure you have a heater, powerhead and an airstone. If you do all three you shouldn't loose any corals or fish.

You will be fine doing that. I would just make sure the salinity temp and ph were all the same as the tank they came from.
