Man i put on some new 4x110 lights with reflector from hello lights to replace the 3x110's with out a reflector and what a difference. I swear it is twice as bright in there and from the cyno out break I think the tank agrees.
Cutting my photo period down form 12 hours to 6 for now and doing a lot of syphoning but seem to be getting it back under control which isnt the easiest with a anthias in there that needs regular feedings and a bunch of LPS that I feed at least once a week so a lot food goes into the tank.
But all the extra light is worth the work and heck like working on the tank anyways half the fun as long as dont get any hair algea anyways.

Sounds like someone forgot to check his nitrate levels regularly to see if they were in check. http://www.reeftalk.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

I run 4x110 on my 55 and it is quite bright. That tank is a mixed tank so there are even SPS in there. I like it I think you will like the extra punch and your corals even more so.

I actually checked nitrates a few weeks ago and they where 0. I think feeding so much lately along with the increased lights just sent the algea into overdrive. I have always had a little in corners but nothing really noticable. I also started making my own phyto and dosing that in the last 2 weeks but had been dosing DT's about every day before though.

Making your own Phyto HMM. Be careful. I remember when one new tank I set up had a Phyto BLOOM. Took me a a few complete water changes to get that tank under control.

I am only dosing a half cup a day for now and like I said I was adding DT's before this almost every day with algea bloom but it could be contributing.
All my corals and fish are doing great other than a new hammer that I placed to close to my favites and the favites sent out 8" sweepers and killed off part it late last week so dont know if it is going to make it now. It doesnt look to good at the moment as it is receding more each day. Figures too since it took me 2months to find a hammer I liked. I have moved the favites but I do believe I was a day to late. http://www.reeftalk.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

Oh and forgot to mention that my RO/DI unit needs new filters. I got a new membrane but wating till this weekend for a carbon and sediment filters also but the top off water should be better and one I get the new filters I will do a couple of water changes. One more contibution to aglea man they are pilling up all at once.
And I wonder where the algea comes from silly me.

Things usually happen like that. It is usually a combination of things. Off to do a water change now since its about that time.
