I have a pair of conches in my tank and the qeen conch is always out making its rounds clean the sand but 3 months ago when I moved into the 90 gallon tank the fighting conch disappered. Well lo and behold it pops up the other day out of the sand and starts to work after a 3 month lay off. I figured it had died along time ago in the sand some where. I knew they can go under for a week or so but not 3 months. It is about 1.5" long.
Any one else have this happen with thier conches?
I've got a pair of fighting conchs (about 2.5" each) that bury themselves for weeks at a time. When I first got them about 10 months ago they were very small (3/4") and would hardly ever disappear other than burying themselves for the night. It seems like they may do this more often as they mature but thats just a guess.
I wouldn't worry about them as they will show up eventually. I bought some Cerith Snails to keep my DSB clean while the Conchs are "hibernating".

I actually have about a 3" fighting conch in there some where for the last few months that I have only seen once and that was a month ago I need to hunt him down. They are kind of tough to see but they leave out a eye stalk or both sticking out of the sand if you can spot them.
