For me it depends on how the tank is doing....I have done it as fequently as every other week and have gone as long as 4 months....

what about % of water that you change?

I change about once time a month. If the tank looks good I change only about 10% if not so good up to 25%.

In our breedding tanks, every day the tanks are bottomed syphened and topped up with new water, so we do approx a 4-5% change daily.

i have a 5x2x2 foot tank with plenum filter in sump, the setup has only been running since september 2003 it is a reef setup in which i do a 15 gallon water change every 2 weeks more when outbreak of algae, i have just got over a severe outbreak of brown algae by syphoning it off using small airline tube which usually removes 1 to 2 gallons which was then topped back up using already prepared water

I change only 5gals every couple of months...my water always test 0 for nitrates, phosphates...must be that huge bed of algae in my sump...I do remove a couple of handfuls of it every few weeks for nutrient export...I wouldn't change water at all if I didn't siphon off detritus and the occasional bubble algae.
