What refugium lighting is best - 24/7, or reverse photoperiod? Why?

24/7 in my opinion. The reason being simple. You get the reverse photoperiod which will stabilize the PH of the main system but the added advantage of Photosynthesis all day long to encourage macro-algal growth and assimilation of nitrates from the main tank. Then simply prune your macro-algae in the refugium and discard.

What about the pH stabilizing effects of the reverse photoperiod style?

I already added that you would get the effects of reverse photoperiod PH stabilization when you run 24/7 in my post above. Reverse photoperiod runs for say 8-10 hours. It stabilizes the PH from algae photoposyntesizing. Extending the lighting period to 24 hours is not going to change that.

I don't understand what your asking for again?

I guess what I meant was, when using the 24/7 method, are the positive pH stabilizing effects of the reverse photoperiod affected. From your last sentence, you say that it does not - good. Thats what I was hoping for. Thanks!

Yep thats what I said both times /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif It is all good. Light means Photosynthesis!! Photosynthesis means Oxygen which will keep the PH high.
