I recently set up a new 55 gal tank with an overflow box. I am running a 1" pipe straight down into my sump. The water flowing out into the sump is quiet but the overflow box is quite noisy at the top of the pipe. Can I put a cover on the top to make the box more quiet or is there some modification I could do to the drain inlet? Thanks.

Time to build the Durso standpipe. Here is a link. There are directions on the site easily found under BUILD YOUR OWN STANDPIPE /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif Basically you can modify what you already have with a few elbows to create a submerged intake. There are pictures so you can't get lost in the design. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif Very easy and quiets things down alot.
