I was thinking of trying to build a Sump/Refugium setup from acrylic for a 80 gal reef tank. Here is the basic mock up. Any Suggestions?

I beleive with your return so close in the middle you trying to create a true refugium to the right where there will be slower flow as you will only be allowing what water to go over there that you pump and can regulate it.

There is one concern I see with this setup. Bubbles! Skimmer Bubbles.

You may want to be pumping your skimmer output over there so it is not so close to your tank return. The main reason from havingthe inlet and outlet so close is this as well. You will still have bubble concerns as well having the outlet so close to the inlet.

Hi

i am doing the exact same thing.. except for a 120. I was planning on cutting acrylic to create something like what Melvins has done here http://www.melevsreef.com/acrylics/sumps/j/sump_model_j.html
but using an old 55 gallon tank as the base for the sump, then added the cut acylic inside with sylicone. this site is the best, most detailed site on sump/refgium design and constrcution i have found

If you create the refgium to the right and slpit the flow from the skimmer section, some to the refgium that will overflow back to the center(return) section) some to the center back up. you can achieve the slow flow for the bio team growth and quick turnaround for the skimmer.... that is my plan anyway.. still trying to determine if just sand, crushed, MMud.. or what is the way to go with the refugium. Planning to go real light on sand in the tank except for looks....
