HID Lights

I must admit I know nothing about lighting. I was given 4 HID lights 400w. These are the lights you would see hanging from the ceiling at Home depot or a huge warehouse. I was thinking I could convert these to aquarium lights. All the components are stacked and bolted together. So I take them apart put the balast in a metal box and connect them via cord/wire and put the balast on the floor. I could cut the reflector down or make a new one. The bulbs are M59 400w Will this work???

The ballasts will work yes. This is how I got my original M59 lighting. You will however need to purchase bulbs of the correct spectrum. You should be able to run all 400watt mogul based bulbs with that ballast. However you may want to stay away from 20K least you get an all blue bulb look.

Thanks for the info. I was able to find some bulbs on the web. It sound like I can add this to my growing to-do list.
