I've seen several "moonlight" products lately for reef tanks. Are there many different kinds of nocturnal lighting? Is it beneficial to the reef, or just ornimental? and, of course, are there any recommendations/cautions?

I have been told that the giesemann lights with moonlights help to replicate the phases of the moon, which some corals require to reproduce....IMO anything that replicates nature is a good thing.

Well now don't listen to manufacturer's lingo. Thats about 99.5% lies from any manufacturer. You notice how they can never back up their claims.
For information a 400watt metal halide puts out about the same light reading as the sun at noon /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif from what tests have been done. Now keep in mind any testing is not exact.
