I recently received my 65g RR that I ordered several weeks ago. Unfortunatly AG didn't send the plumbing or bulkheads - said they would be sending them soon (right).
Anyway, I have a mag 9.5 for the thing and am considering just building Durso standpipes rather than wait on AG the get their act together. I'm thinking I may need to use both holes as exits to the sump because of the pump. Does anyone know the flow rates of a 1" bulkhead and 3/4" bulhead? I'd prefer to use only one hole, but am prepared to use both

I would wait on the proper plumbing. A normal 1 inch bulkhead if I remember is around 600-650 GPH. You should do fine with a Mag 9 as with the head pressure it will be right around there. Besides that you can place a valve on their to throttle it back if need be. A durso standpipe is just a regular return pipe with a two 90 degree elbows on top.
At any rate you can make the modifications after you get the plumbing. Why would you spend the extra money just for waiting a couple days. You are going to spend weeks patiently waiting on this thing to cycle. You might as well learn patience now and wait for the parts that were not sent . This is a good lesson in patience which is vital to reefkeeping success.

Patience isn't the problem, AG inefficiency is. They tell my LFS 3 weeks and it takes 7 and then they don't include everything needed for the tank. Then the paint on the stand is so bad I have to repaint it. I know patience is the key. I've been doing FW for 30 years and recently set up a FOWLR 6 months ago. The 65g is sitting in my garage and and won't even be ready to set up (plumbing not withstanding) for at least 2 or 3 weeks. However, I don't trust AG to get the plumbing sent by that time.

If you dont get the plumbing when you need it all you need s the 2 bulk heads so no big deal either way.
Yes a 1" will approx 600 gph.

Well if the tank if not going to be setup for 2-3 weeks it is a mute point /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif
You can wait for the proper parts. Just badger them a bit. Worse case scenerio is you can pick up the pvc parts you need in a couple weeks if you still need them.

i have an ag 65 gal rr. tank with a 9.5 it runs just fine with 1 overflow and 1 return ,you might want to mod. your return once it hits the water it is a lot of pressure try a 3/4 in. tee with a 45 and a 90 but choke down the 90 on the end or it will get allmost all the flow good luck any questions e-mail me and i will send pics for ya....

I plan on having 3 returns running off the mag. My LFS has a really cool reef setup with PVC under the LR. The PVC has holes set at 45 degree angles from each other and pushes up through the rock. I will have one return like that, one using the normal nozzle and then one one 90 degree elbo coming in on the opposite side of the overflow box. I'm doing it this way to hopefully eliminate the need for powerheads in the tank and as they care unsightly and can be hard to hide.
