Howdy again y'all! Sorry this is so long but please read on!
For those of you who have generously given your advice to me in the past I thank you. I have a small dilemma brewing with my what will end up a 75 gallong reef tank. I built the stand out of two 24" cabinet bases (prior to knowing what a sump or refuguim were) so now I have limited space under my aquarium lengthwise, height and width are ok. My question is this. I was originally thinking of putting in a wet/dry filter protein skimmer combo but after much more research and lots of advice (from some of you) I decided that not to be the best course of action so I purchased a Euro-Reef C6-1 protein skimmer and am going with a sump/refugium if I can. I can build a sump 21"L x 17"W x 18"D (almost 28 gallons) but since the footprint of the protein skimmer is 8.5 x 10 there will be very little room for the refuguim part of the tank so I was thinking I could use one side of my cabinet for the sump side and drill holes through the middle (I can't get rid of it completely it is structural) and plumb through the middle wall into a refuguim and the return pump. This way I would not have to worry about space and I would actually increase my water surface area. Please give you thoughts.

Thanx...Butch

Your best bet is close to what you descripe but i would place the refugium higher than the sump so the the drain from refugium drilled near the top will free flow back to sump with the refugium either fed by a smallpower head in the sump or a "T" placed in your drain line from the main tank feeding both the sump and refugium and the refugium still draining in the sump.
