I am relativly new to this hobby. I have had my tank up for 7 mo. and in the last few have started to get some corals. So I am wondering which of my corals if any could I frag. I have a green galaxia, a long tentacal plate coral, a goniopora, and some polyps. So am I able to frag any of those. I know the polyps will spread on their own but as far as the lps's go what would I go about doing to frag them.
Thanks for any help

You will not be able to frag any of the LPS you have with out killing them. LPS in general can be hard to frag with out killing them. Softies and sps are best for fraging with most sucess.

Is it possible for them to reproduce on their own then? Or do all LPS corals come from the ocean?

Of course the corals you have come from the Ocean /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif Now the easy ones to reproduce are branching types of Euphyllia corals as far as LPS go. You can break off one branch with the polyp and let that grow out and form a community.

What I ment was, were any of them born or fragged in captivity. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Most all frags you get of Local places will be wild caught.
If you happen to get a friend who has fragged his frogspawn or hammer corals then you may get one captive grown. However like I stated above to my knowledge of the LPS out there the branching Euphyllia are the main ones that stand any kind of a mainstay in captive raising as you are not damaging the entire colony by breaking off a branch.

Yes they can reproduce on thier own in time but it is fairly rare for lps like they ones you have to do it in a aquarium put it does happen. Most all corals in stores are straight from the ocean.
