Hermit Crab problem

Does anyone know if hermit crabs will eat the coating off feather dusters? Several of my hermits seem to be eating of the bottom inch of my dusters and the bottom is becoming translucent.

I have never had a problem with hemits eating feather dusters. They will eat aglea build up on the which is what you maybe seeing but then again they could be it is hard to say with hermits they will eat about anything.
