Howdy y'all...I have gotten much needed help in this forum and apprecaite all of it thus far. I am finally about ready to start cycling my aquarium but need one last bit of help first. I filled my tank, sump and refugium with water to test for leaks and if the design I created would work. Everything seems to be working as expected. My only concern now is I have 2 overflow boxes as my tank is not drilled (unfortunate purchase prior to much research) now I am curoius how to keep my aquarium from overflowing in the even of loss of the siphon for any reason including a power outage and power restart. I know the siphons cannot restart themselves so How do I preven my sump and refugium water from ending up on the floor? I also had an odd thing happen when I was testing. I unplugged my main pump and when I did the return line from the refuguim started to drain back into the refuguim and had I not noticed it no telling how much of my tank water would have drained into the refuguim and onto the floor. I think there is some kind of one way valve I could put into this line but I am not sure. Any help would be greatly appreciated...the overflow boxes are my main concern as I have no idea what to do there.

Thanx...Butch

If they loose syphon your screwed there really is nothing to prevent them from flooding. You can get a float switch and put it in your tank or sump below the water level upside down and when the water level goes down to a certian point the float will kick in and shut off your main pump but that is about as good as it gets as far as I know.
As towards the refugium line drill a small hole just below the water level from where it is drawing water and when the water goes below the hole it will suck in air and break the syphon. THe hole should be at least 1/8" with 1/4" being better and keep it cleaned out so it will work.

What kind of overflows are you using?

Someone told me to use AquaLift pumps to keep the siphon going...atuomaticly restarts siphon after power outage! I bought two...they look like air pumps, but pull water in one tube and out another!
