OK I have a 2x55 CSL indy switching retro, and a 65 watt smartlight that I will be mounting to the hood of a 37 gal tank (30x12x22). I was going to leave the back open and use fans on the sides of the hood to blow air in.
The Endcaps I have are unsealed, will this provide to be a problem? I don't really want to have to spend $45 + shipping just for endcaps.
Thanks,
Tim

non water proof end caps can definetly lead to problems including fire with out a splash shield of some kind to keep water off them if they are to cloose to the water I would say a min 5" off water with out a shield of some kind and then it is still a risk.

Hey Gregg, Whats the easiest way to make a splash shield for my tank that wont heat it up? Thers got to be a way I can suspend a thin acrylic sheet somehow so water can stil evap. but not splash up on lights.

You could just have 4 pieces of wood like a thick dowel cut to length about 1" longer than the height from the inside of the canopy to the bottom of you lights and screw them to the inside of your canopy then just get a piece of plexi cut and screw it to the 4 dowels to cover the light
