I am very new just signed up a few minutes ago, but i have a question about lighting my 46 Gallon Bow front. My tank just finished cycling and i have around 30lbs of live rock and live sand. I have 3 electric blue damsels, and 3 tank raised true percula clowfish. I want to be able to add any kind of coral or clam and support an anemone safely also. I am new to this hobby and i cant figure out what the best way to go with this tank is. I really want a hood and dont want a pendent hanging over the tank. I thought maybe the PC 2x96w hood would work, but then i read i would be limited with some corals.

If someone could give me some suggestions on the maximum type of light i could go with and maybe the lowest i could go with that would be great...

The dimensions of my tank are 36" W x 15" D x 20" H

To be able to keep any coral or clam you want and have really good color and health you will need a halide for your best bet. A single halide would work well but the problem is that those bowfronts have a plastic center brace which is a problem in that is blocks out the main light and degrades over time with a halide over it. So you could either go with 2 150 HQI lights which I think would be your best bet. As for hight off the water I would suggest 7-10" off the water surface. If you set on having a hood get a couple of fans to blow cool air in and hot air out will help alot.
YOu can go with the 2x96 PC light and keep most of the stuff you want but wont have the growth or color you would have with halides.
