OK, I know Algae is always a problem with aquatics. But I have had to scrap the glass of my 45 Gallon tank every day just to keep up with new Algae growth. I already have about 20 snails, combination of Turbo, crown, etc. I also have about 20 plus hermit crabs. The only live stock are crabs, shrimp and a star fish. I don’t have any fishes yet since my tank is only 1 month old. I know my 200watts of compact lights sure helps in Algae growth but that is need for corals and eventually an anemone,

Any suggestions or is this just a fact of life for a reef tank ?

Try getting some macro algae, it competes for the same nutrients and seemed to slow the bad algae growth in my tank.

Algea is part of a new tank so dont get to frustrated it will pass.
I asked some questions on your light tread to try and help control your algea for now.

Also, try turning off the lighting in the tank until it cycles or you add corals that require lighting. Strong lighting will increase algae growth in an uncycled tank. You can then start the lights on a short cycle until you reach the desired intervals.

consider a refugium - filled with calupera - thiswill cut down on algae in the tank
