I live in Sydney , Australia and the way i have seen tanks set up seem so simple compared to the ones most of the ones on this website. To set up a marine tank we just use the basics a relativly strong filter plenty of live rock for biological filtration, strong lighting and good circulation. are sumps and chillers and the other extra's really necessary??? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

It all depends on what you want to raise in your tank, some corals like very strict parameters for optimum health like aropora and other sps's. If you want to stick with a variaty of soft corals you really don't need all that fancy equiptment, but don't get me wrong there are people out there that are very well educated on the hobby that have some beautiful tanks with a suprisingly low tech setup.

NO chillers and sumps are not required. They are nice but not required. YOu listed the basics needed for a good system start.
