Has anyone ever used a PVC check valve? I'm adding a spraybar onto my new 30 gallon and I wanted to drill the bottom for the return instead of going over the top. The only way I can see doing this is by using a check valve. Do they greatly reduce the flow of the pump? Also, what was your experience with them?

I dont believe they reduce flow very much. But you dont have to clean a couple times a year or the get build up on them and will not close when you need them to.

If you are worried about the flow restriction just go up one in size, my friend was talked into using checks and he spent alot of money on 4 of them only for one to fail within 6 months for whatever reason...

checks also make your pump work harder and create more heat, if the sump is sized close to what you really need there is really no need for a check. I set mine up that way in the beginning and removed it about a month later due to the increased heat
