I already typed this thread and submitted but for some reason it disappeared. Anyhow here's my question. Should I go with 2 175 Metal Halide or 2 250 Metal Halide? My tank is new, only 10 weeks old. 65 gallon. 36x18x24 are the measurements. In addition to the Halides I'm going to run 2 96 watt power compacts (actinic). I do not want any restrictions on the type of corals or inverts I put in the tank but I also do not wanna fry the fish either. Any help would be great.

I have the same tank as you do. My tank is 15 months old now , but I just switched over to Halides last month.
I got the ocean lights from Aqua Medic, Two 150 hqi's 150 w and I love them.

I always suggest getting the higher out put lights as there is very price difference between the two and you get alot more light from the 250's. You will be able to keep any thing you want with 250's also.

250s all the way 400s would be the best though hehe.

the 250w double ended put out as much par as a single ended 400w and use less power

i think your 65 gallon tank is only about 40! and if you drop the 2 250's on it along with the 96 watt pc's you will have to watch your temp pretty good

Depending how high your keeping the lights off the tank you can run 175's they will keep pretty much everything and not heat up your water as much. If you have a chiller go for the 250's
