hey all, i have noticed lately that my yellow tang has developed "nip marks" in his fins and tail. my tank seems pretty peaceful when im around. i have two clowns and 3 chromis in a 40. i was also wondering your thoughts on adding a blue tang - the lfs just recently got a bundle in and they are only about 1 1/2 inches long. any thoughts??

Are the perculas true and are they paired i.e. Male/Female
If so it might be a territorial behavior being exibited,
As far as the blue tang goes they are pretty agresive and not good for a small tank.
Yellow Hawaii Tangs are a beautiful addition unfortunately one of the most prone to disease and stress.

if you want a blue tang with a yellow tang you need to introduce them together or they will fight due to them being so territorial!

They will be fine, I have never seen mine even try to fight.

I have a blue and a yellow Tang and they get along just fine. I noticed one day my yellow tang was a little scrapped up and I thought it was because he and the newly added blue tang were not getting along. After watching for some time I figured out what was going on.
The yellow tang was trying to get at some seaweed that had gotten tangled up in some live rock and he got scratched up from the rock as he tried to get in there. So as it turned out he and the blue tang were getting along fine. Now that I removed the seaweed from the live rock my yellow tang is all healed up and doing fine...
That's just my experience, but I think they will do just fine. My LFS rep told me to be sure to get tangs of the same size (which I did) and they should do fine together. Also make sure they have enough room and hiding places, as they love to hide. I love both of my Tangs and they are a blast to watch.

Regal Tangs (ie blue tangs) are usually one of the more peaceful tangs but the yellow tang on the other hang can be the terror, so i would have reccomeded to add them both in at the same time but as one of the last fish in your tanks because they can be territorial, a large tank is best for tangs
