I found Ronald's article, "Dearest Mudder....The Importance of Deep Sand" a very informative article. I would like to know what others think about removing crushed coral in an existing (mature) 125 reef tank and replacing it with a sand bed. Has anyone attempted this with a mature reef tank? Has anyone ever used Refu. Mudd as a partial substrate in a reef tank? I would like more input on this avenue if possible before I make any attempts. Thanks

I have a 55gl tank with about 3 inches of chrushed coral, when I Purchased my tank it was used so I didn't even think anything about substrates. If I started from scratch I would go with live sand and have crushed coral in a refugium. In my opinion it would be pointless to change over to live sand or refu. mudd. Crushed coral will not hurt your tank, just make sure you clean it properly about once a month and you should have no troubles.
