CAN ANYONE TELL ME WHAT ALL THE CULPRITS OF RED SLIME ARE? I KNOW THAT BRINE SHRIMP CAN CAUSE A PROBLEM IF NOT WELL RINSED AND THAT WATER QUALITY CAN ALSO CAUSE IT. CAN LIGHTING (TOO MUCH) ALSO CAUSE IT? OVER FEEDIDNG/UNDER FEEDING - IS THAT ALSO A CAUSE? AS MUCH INFORMATION ON THIS SUBJECT WOULD BE VERY MUCH APPRECIATED. THANKS IN ADVANCE.

Lighting may help it in growth but not cause it. At one time I had that problem in my 55gl tank, well I asked aroung and everyone that I talked to said that over feeding will cause it. At the time we were feed dry pellets on monday wednesday and friday, and doing a full feeding with krill brine shrimp & blood worms on tuesdays and saturdays. Now I only do full feedings on every third day. Fixed the problem in my tank. I have one question for you, is your tank a new setup?

Poor water circulation can cause it, not using a skimmer can cause it, if you don't change the water often enough will lead to it, and not cleaning your skimmer enough can lead to it. Bulbs that are worn out, that usually leads to green algae. Basically a lot of things can start it or make it worse. But it is mostly due to excess nutrients in the water that come from over feeding and either no skimmer or inefficient or dirty skimmers that cant keep up.
