There is a new product called ScrapeRite double-edged plastic razor blades that are absolutely perfect for tank cleaning. They are made from acrylic plastics and unlike other so-called scraping tools cannot damage the tank sides.

The blades are designed with a wedge-shape tip that works like a chisel to pop off algae growth and other yuckie stuff we don't want on our aquariums. But because the blades are viscous when wet, they just glide smoothly along the surface without sticking or scratching or gouging. Some aquarium stores are beginning to carry them now. But you can check them out and find a source for them at www.scraperite.com.

Forgot to mention that the ScrapeRite blades are designed to fail before they push anything into the side of the aquarium. So even if you get a bit of coral in the blade, the blade will fail (i.e. break) so you don't make any accidental moves.
