Brody you mentioned "Cleanup crew" in the other post. IT brought a question to me. I have a 40 gal, i just put new lights on and im getting alot of just green algae forming on the sides. i only have about 5-8 snails (alive) and like 10-12 hermits. i don't know if this is enough, im willing to bet it isn't. I only have a false perc clown, and a yellow tang at the moment.
thanks,
Mbeach

You have about 1/4 or a little more of what you need to keep it under control, there are a lot of places that sell "Algae Clean up Crews" Just do a search on "Reef Clean up Crews" in google, they can give you a good idea of what and how many you need for your tank size.

Yeah the more the better. It seems to me that alot of the places that sell "cleaning crews" don't ever sell what you want in those packages though. On saltwater.com they have lots of different packages but they all have at least one thing that I wouldn't want in my tank. I think that you are just better off buying tons of hermits and snails, maybe a couple of cuc's, a serpent star, and maybe some sand sifting stars. Thats what I have and that kind of combo can't be beat!

So as far as Algae accumulating on the glass, do you guys rely completely on Snails, or do you have one of those glass magnets?

Yeah pretty much the only time I need to clean my glass is when it has too much coralline growing on it the I just break out the razor blade.

I use a magnet, seems like no matter how many snails I have I still have to dust off the front glass every couple of days. Not a big deal, only takes me a couple of seconds. But the coralline I have to use a scarapper for about once a month normaly.

Try one of those plastic things that hold razor blades you see in the check out lines at wal-mart that they sell for scraping stickers off glass, they are perfect for coralline... only drawback is you need to make sure the razor is perfectly dry after or it will rust.

The guy I get my coral and stuff from turned me on to that and I’ll never use a plastic one again.
