Thread: For what it's worth

  1. For what it's worth

I recently stripped down by flat back hexagon 110 gallon acrylic tank. Felt like coming up with a new display.

I always wondered just how much water was really in the tank, considering that it had in lots of rock and sand. I use natural sea water, so I normally travel to the beach with 4 x 6 gallon and 1 x 5 gallon gasoline cans, that's a total of 29 gallons when I do a water change.

Seeing that I was filling the tank to maximum capacity this time, just water, no rock or sand yet, I decided to see just how much water this 110 gallon tank really holds. I made 3 trips to the beach, and the tank filled to max capacity after pouring in 87 gallons. I guess you can figure out what all this means when it comes to adding supplements and chemicals to the water based on tank capacity. Can certainly screw things up.

  2. You probally lose some water volume based on the hexegon shape. I know rectangular tanks are pretty darn close. If I have a 225 gallon tank rectangular the actual water volume is something like 224.415 gallons
