Description: Characters: Colonies are massive to encrusting. Corallites are monocentric or form short valleys. Walls are thick, with rounded edges. Septa are thin and evenly spaced. There may be some development of columella centres and/or paliform lobes.

Colour: Usually grey- or yellow-brown with green or cream valley floors.

Similar species: Platygyra ryukyuensis, which has smaller valleys with thinner walls. See also P. crosslandi.

Habitat: Shallow reef environments.

Abundance: Usually uncommon.
