Description: The Red General, a.k.a. African Sea Star or Crown of Thorns Starfish, is a large starfish that is deep bodied. It is colored in gray and red, including a red five-pointed star in the center of its body, which lends to its name of Red General. These stars have red tubercles that run along each arm, as well as surrounding the star in the center. They are very active stars that should be kept in large aquariums. They are not reef safe, because they will eat sessile invertebrates. They will not harm other starfish or fish. They make great additions to fish-only tanks, since they add lots of color.
