Description: Characters: Colonies are massive or are unifacial plates. Corallites are immersed or exsert and are surrounded by fused thecal papillae. Coenosteum papillae are usually present.

Colour: Usually pale brown, green or blue (which may photograph purple).

Similar species: Montipora grisea. See also M. australiensis and M. cocosensis, the latter having large crowded corallites.

Habitat: Shallow reef environments.

Abundance: Usually uncommon
