The rate of growth of this species is greater than is indicated by water column nutrient levels
and the reason is not undersood.
Every species of Caulerpa can be found rooted in soft sand and mud environments but C.
racemosa is the only exception to this. It is usually found in areas of rocky substrate but in
heavy surf area where the bottom tends to be hard.
The Opisthobranch, Oxynoe viridis, can be found on this algae - eating it.
