Description: Characters: Colonies are broad basal laminae with irregular clumps of tapered irregularly fused branches. Corallites are irregularly spaced and are in excavated pits. Those on branches are especially deeply excavated, giving branches a rough surface. Walls between corallites are thin.

Colour: Brown with white corallite centres.

Similar species: Porites nigrescens, and P. negrosensis, both of which have similarly excavated corallites. Porites nigrescens does not have basal laminae and P. negrosensis has corallites with rounded walls. Porites horizontalata has similar corallites but forms primarily explanate plates. See also P. flavus and P. tuberculosa.

Habitat: Shallow reef environments.

Abundance: Sometimes common.
