Description:
Characters: Colonies are clumps of highly contorted branches which do not fuse. Corallites are large and crowded. The coenosteum is very coarse. There is no development of papillae or other ornamentation.
Colour: Tan or brown, with white polyps.
Similar species: Montipora spongiosa.
Habitat: Shallow reef environments.
Abundance: Common.
