Characters: Colonies are thin and encrusting. Corallites are approximately one millimetre diameter and are mostly submerged in the coenosteum. Corallite papillae are evenly spaced.
Colour: Brown with blue centres (which may photograph pink).
Similar species: Montipora patula and M. effusa, which are not primarily encrusting.
