Characters: Colonies are prostrate or irregularly branched. Branches taper towards their ends. There may be one or more axial corallites which are almost immersed. Radial corallites are smooth and rounded. The coenosteum is smooth and composed of fine spinules with elaborated tips.
Colour: Pale or dark brown with pale corallites.
Similar species: Acropora togianensis and A. cylindrica, both of which have larger branches and less conspicuous radial corallites. See also A. schmitti and A. hemprichii, the latter having larger, less compact branches and larger corallites.
Habitat: Shallow water, especially exposed upper reef slopes and sand flats.
